Angling in Mayenne
Here, there are no secret spots for locals only ! Solidarity and conviviality are the key words along the river banks and around the lakes. Under the leadership of the departmental fishing federation, local clubs monitor the water quality of the numerous rivers and lakes and maintain the friendly atmosphere.
Salmon, trout, carp, roach… fish galore !

In the north, salmon and trout are plentiful in the rushing streams where fly fishermen stand in the water and along the banks.
In the centre and south of the département where the rivers are deeper and slower flowing, roach, carp, tench, pike, zander and perch have star billing.
Lakes and the River Mayenne favour carp fishing and their banks are often dotted with carp fishing bivvies (tents).
On the River Mayenne pleasure boaters and fishermen get on well together. Fishermen wave to say thank you to boats which slow down and it is easy to strike up a conversation over a glass of cider or pommeau during a stopover !
Our gites and B&Bs are never far from a fishing spot. Some even have private lakes where fishermen can pursue their favourite pastime along with their family.
The Village Vacances et Pêche (Holiday and Fishing Village) at Villiers-Charlemagne is designed for fishing enthusiasts and their families : you fish from the patio in front of your chalet ; each fisherman has access to a store for his equipment ; the lake is exclusively reserved for fishing ; a fishing expert is on-site to teach the latest techniques and present new equipment. The phrase « A genuine fisherman’s paradise » is one that is often heard !
