Outdoors types can go on mountain-bike excursions in Bonnétable, or go rock-climbing in the Perche regional nature park on the banks of the Sarthe. Otherwise you can stroll through the French gardens of Grand-Lucé and Poncé-sur-Loire, or the English gardens of the Château du Lude. Finally you can visit the Roman ruins of Le Mans, which are just as well conserved as those of Rome.
Of course, the Sarthe is also synonymous with the motorsports circuit that is home to the 24-Hour race. This is a great opportunity for all the family to discover motorcycle racing and Formula 1 in the circuit's museum. Bicycle enthusiasts can also visit the Musée du Vélo museum in Mamers.
The Sarthe is rich with heritage: from Epau abbey in Yvré-l'Evêque, to Solesmes abbey and the Plessis-Bourré château, you will be able to travel through centuries of history. Don't forget to try some of the local culinary delights, such as rillettes du Mans and Loué poultry.
