Le Moule sur l'Île de Grande Terre
Le Moule boasts a magnificent beach facing the Ocean and is internationally well-known for its surf spot which hosts major surfing events.
However, those who prefer calm seas are catered for too. A lovely destination for families, couples and friends seeking peace and tranquillity close to nature.
Le Moule – history and heritage
There is plenty for history and heritage fans to enjoy : Musée Archéologique d’Edgard Clerc, church of Saint-Jean Baptiste (a listed building), Maison Coloniale de Zévallos, Usine Gardel, Porte d’Enfer, Maison du Crabe. Right by the sea you can find the remains of an ancient artillery battery which once guarded the harbour, as well as the ruins of the Wisosky factory. Finally, the Plage Porte d’Enfer beach is an absolute must to see, a beautiful, unspoilt cove surrounded by cliffs.
Market at Le Moule
The evening market, which takes place every Wednesday from 16.00 on the Boulevard du Général de Gaulle, has local products and a lively atmosphere to tickle your taste buds and provide a feast for your eyes !
Discovery trails at Le Moule

The vegetation is varied and depends on factors like proximity to the sea, exposure to winds, humidity, topography and type of soil. Discovery trails include : Sentier de la Plage de la Baie to Bois-Baron ; Circuit de Néron, takes you around mills and old plantation houses; Circuit Amérindien, starts at the Archaeological Park where you learn about the pre-Colombian history of the town of Le Moule ; Circuit around the sugar producing area takes you through fields of sugar cane and woodland to see remains of houses, etc.
After all these walks, relax at one of the many beaches in Le Moule like Plage de l’Autre Bord or Plage du Dauphin, a beautiful beach with lots of coconut palms.
"What I love doing at Le Moule is walking along the boulevard and watching the surfers."
Le Moule is 22km from the airport, by taxi or hire car. You can also go by bus, it depends on your budget. The advantage of hiring a car is, of course, that you can choose where you want to go and visit out-of-the-way places.
