La Saône
The River Saône from Vioménil to the Rhône
The Saône rises at Vioménil (402m altitude) in the Monts Faucilles (Vosges département) and flows into the Rhône at Lyon. It is 480km long and flows through the départements of Vosges, Haute-Saône, Côte-d'Or, Saône-et-Loire and finally Rhône.
With its 11 tributaries it is an important and widely used river thanks to its system of modern dams. The river is navigable from Corre but big boats cannot go further than Saint-Jean de Losne.
Pike fishing in the Saône Valley

Fishermen love this leafy countryside where they can fish for ablet, roach, carp, perch, zander, pike and sometimes catfish !
From Port-sur-Saône to Gray, follow the old tow path which is now an 80km path for walking, cycling and horse riding past pretty villages.
For a holiday afloat, the tranquil Petite Saône is ideal for a memorable time with 130km of navigable waterway through unspoilt countryside, stopping off at one of the 6 boat hire stations along the river. Enjoy unusual experiences like the Saint-Albin underground tunnel and the passage directly below the Château de Ray-sur-Saône which overlooks the valley. Stop to visit the castle with its elegant interior and English-style grounds with trees from the four corners of the globe and enjoy the rich family history covering 10 centuries, personified by Comtesse Diane de Salverte, last heiress of the Seigneurs de Ray.
