Nantes also has a significant historic and cultural heritage : the Château des Ducs de Bretagne has two very different styles of architecture, medieval and Renaissance, right in the heart of the city.

Nantes, at the heart of Loire Atlantique
From here you can travel around to all the major attractions of Loire-Atlantique. Going westward, Guérande and the Brière Regional Natural Park conservation area are an hour’s drive from the centre of Nantes. To the south the lively city of Saint-Nazaire, its beaches and famous shipyards are also an hour’s drive. On the way you may like to stop off at Lac de Grand-Lieu, the largest natural lake in France. Chateaubriant and its magnificent medieval castle are an hour’s drive northwards. Finally, to the east lies Clisson and its vineyards.
