Domaine de Chamarande
Domaine de Chamarande - a unique heritage garden and cultural attraction !
In 2001, the Essonne local authority decided to make the estate, which they had bought in 1978 but had remained closed to the public, into a landmark attraction in Essonne, with the aim of « re-establishing contemporary artistic creation in its natural setting », particularly visual arts, so that the people of Essonne could have access to what now constitutes their heritage. In summer, numerous events are held featuring encounters between various forms of artistic expression, notably dance every July.
The largest park in Essonne

The largest park in Essonne (98 hectares), a landscaped heritage space classed as a « jardin remarquable », serves as the backdrop for the departemental collection of contemporary art. It also houses an artistic and cultural centre, the departemental archives where exhibitions are regularly held and the centre Auguste Mione, an accommodation centre for schoolchildren.
Free access to the park every day of the year, its proximity to an RER station (200m), its variety of landscapes and its eclectic programme of events, open to all, make the park a real centre of cultural democratisation.
