Clisson and its wine-growing area
Clisson is affectionately known as the capital of the Nantes wine-growing area. It is a charming little town, steeped in history and with excellent wines.
Clisson, a delightful surprise in the Nantes wine-growing area
As you arrive, you will be surprised by the colourful, Italian-style buildings of tiles and brick. What’s more, Clisson has a wealth of heritage buildings including museums, chapels, a castle, churches and many other places open to the public.
Let’s go back 2 centuries to understand where the Italian inspiration came from. In the 19th century, two artists originally from Nantes returned from Italy and fell in love with the ruined town. They set about rebuilding it with Italian-style architecture and landscaping using Tuscany as a model !
Sporting enthusiasts can enjoy canoeing along the Sèvre or walking along the many paths into the heart of the Nantes vineyards. By bike or on foot, with family or friends, come and admire this magnificent leafy gem surrounded by diverse scenery.

It has a wide range of cultural and natural attractions, events and activities.

Meet wine-growers at their vineyards all year round and taste their products including Muscadet and ‘joint-venture vintages’ made by producers working together.
