Carrières de Lumières – a unique location at the heart of the Alpilles
The limestone quarry acquired its current function in the 1960s, thanks to the visionary genius of Jean Cocteau who, enthralled by the beauty of the place and its surroundings, decided to shoot the film « Le Testament d'Orphée » there. Since then, the monumental Carrières de Lumières at the heart of the Alpilles has been the venue for unique multimedia shows. Every year a new previously unseen show is presented, featuring the greatest names in the history of art.
Les Carrières – an immense 14 metre high carpet of images

The shows are projected onto the immense 14 metre high walls, pillars and floors which are transformed into a vast carpet of images with a musical accompaniment. Spectators become totally immersed in the images projected onto the 6,000m² stone surfaces, transported into worlds of colour which highlight the unique character and stark beauty of the place.
