Ballon d’Alsace
In summer, there is nowhere more pleasant to recharge your batteries than in the Ballon des Vosges Regional Natural Park. Often confused with the Grand Ballon (the highest point of the Vosges mountains), the Ballon d’Alsace is no small mountain either and is the highest summit of the Southern Vosges !
Ballon d’Alsace is a Natura 2000 conservation area whose pale green slopes in springtime turn to bright green in summer. The mountain has magnificent views over the Vosges mountains, valleys, surrounding villages and even the Alps – a real feast for the eyes !
Sporting enthusiasts take note ! Walking, mountain biking, treetop adventure trails, rock climbing – lots of challenging activities ! As the starting point of the GR7 and with the GR5 and GR59 going over it, Ballon d’Alsace is a paradise for walkers. Families are not forgotten with a trail that runs across the pastures up to the top of the mountain at 1,247m and an amazing 360° panorama ! You can even go looking for chamois with mountain guides to get really close to nature, great fun for children…and parents too !
After all this activity, you are sure to be hungry so why not taste some local specialities like blueberry tart in the cosy atmosphere of an ‘auberge’.
