Avignon, Palais des Papes
Avignon – City of Popes and Capital of Festivals
Avignon, city of Popes and capital of festivals, is a medieval town with picturesque, little streets and heritage buildings on every corner.
The Palais des Papes
Exploring the Palais des Papes is a fascinating experience for children and grownups alike. This monumental papal residence features more than twenty different rooms including the Pope’s private apartments and its fabulous frescoes painted by the Italian artist Matteo Giovannetti.
Cultural events take place regularly throughout the year : themed and educational exhibitions, themed tours and concerts. Performances of the Festival d’Avignon, created by Jean Vilar in 1947, are staged in the main courtyard of the palace in July.

Magali, owner of Petit Mazet gite in Avignon recommends exploring the Palais des Papes using the Histopad digital tour, a virtual journey back in time at the heart of the largest Gothic palace in Europe.
