How to book

Gîte rural

Is there one guide that lists every rural gîte?

There is no one guide that lists every gîte in France and the French territories because there are simply too many. Instead, we offer a selection of regional and departmental guides that between them, list all 43,800 holiday homes. There are also two national guides: Nouveaux gîtes ruraux (new rural gîtes), that lists all the gîtes selected by Gîtes de France that year (approximately 2,800), and Gîtes de Charme, a guide that presents Gîtes de France’s favourite properties.

Almost all the departements offer an online reservation service with secure credit/debit card payment options. Alternatively, you can make a tentative reservation which will only be confirmed upon reception of payment.

Depending on the gîte you choose, there is also the possibility of making a reservation through a Gîtes de France telephone service or contacting the owners of the property directly. The reservation options for each gîte will appear in the guide.

No matter how you make your reservation, you will receive a contract that you must sign. If this is sent to you via the reservation service, cancellation insurance may be offered.

Helpful tips

To find a gîte suitable for disabled holidaymakers, simply specify this requirement in your departmental search. Alternatively, you can contact the departement’s reservation service by telephone.

For popular travel dates (bank holiday weekends, school holidays etc.) it is best to reserve a few weeks in advance. You can find out about last-minute deals on some departments’ websites or telephone services.
